Frozen River (Chadar) Trek with Adventure Holidays

The Chadar Trek (Frozen River) is a freezing escape that embarks upon the blanket of a large icecap on the River Zanskar. The strenuous walk connects us from Ladakh to the snow bound villages of the Zanskar Valley, covering a distance of approximately 90-100 kilometers. The trail all throughout leaves you with clattering teeth and frost dried eyes and during the blanched nights it leads to shiver you to empathize the temperature you never experienced before.

Highlights :

  • A walk on the iced up frozen Zanskar River
  • Humble and genial Zanskari (local) people, highlighting the tribal and traditional Ladakhi life.
  • Cultural Expeditions
  • A fantastic glimpse of frozen Waterfalls
  • Amazing high-end Zanskar ranges
  • Incredible sight-seeing of high ranges

The sight is amazing as the iced up and frozen Zanskar meets the fast flowing Indus. We reach the point, past the village of Chilling to where the road head ends. The vistas are stunning, as we pass through giant frozen waterfalls, Ice Cliffs and one may even catch sight of the mountain fox.

Nyerak to Dibb
Though technically it is the same way back, it is also quite different. The Chadar or the blanket of ice that is forming on the River Zanskar is always changing, breaking up and forming itself again. As the Chadar dynamics are ever changing, the same route and place would look and feel different as the texture and conditions change. Overnight stay at camp. (B, L,D)
